John and Tim,

Great discussion, but the talk about the tax treatment when a company is purchased is beside the point. I am talking about the NCI deal, in which WIND purchased the Navio technology from NCI and took a charge of about $10,000,000. They definitely did NOT buy the company.

In post #2849 Jason stated that "the NCI purchase had no tax benefits". I am trying to get a clarification on what he meant and whether it was true. If he meant that there was no tax write-off for this charge, then why would WIND have taken this charge? If there was a tax write-off, then everyone should understand that WIND did this for prudent financial reasons and we should be able to move past this issue.
