Neil,
I think that it is interesting to note that the URL for Internet Telephony Magazine: internettelephonymag.com is strikingly similar to that of Telephony Magazine's who puts out their weekly issue under: internettelephony.com
The interesting thing about this dichotomy is that "Telephony" Magazine has been a bastion of conservatism for the established local exchange carriers and inter-states for over a century, while the newer "Internet Telephony" Magazine appears to represent all that is new and revolutionary, in relative terms.
In all fairness, I must admit that in recent years the older and more established Telephony Magazine has gotten its act together with respect to putting out relevant information on VoIP and other emerging technologies, and appears to have lost its stodgy approach to coverage and its older-style editorial stance. It was about two years ago, for example, that I read about the first VoIP gateways from Vienna and others between their covers.
While we are on the subject of magazines... There is an eye-opening article in the February Business Communications Review (BCR) on Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) voice quality, pricing and other benchmarks. See:
bcr.com
...written by By Edwin E. Mier, Robert J. Smithers, Jr. and Thomas R. Scavo.
To me this article is further evidence that the technology is well out of the toy stages and getting really serious. An interesting lesson or reaffirmation to me is that out of virtually nowhere there are startup companies who step up to the plate and virtually put the established leaders to shame on price and performance. Another manifestation of "internet time" dynamics, IMO.
FWIW, and Best Regards,
