Globe says stock drops as analysts cut recommendation

Ballard Power Systems Inc BLD
Shares issued 23,083,665 Mar 5 close $130.90
Fri 6 Mar 98 In the News
The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, March 6, edition that Ford Motor
and Mobil are hooking up to develop new fuels and engine technology,
including advances aimed at making the fuel cells developed by Ballard
Power Systems commercially possible. The Globe's Greg Keenan writes that
Ford and Mobil say they have formed an alliance to work on short term,
medium term and longer term projects, including improving fuel and engine
technology and creating a wider market for alternative fuel vehicles.
Ballard Power Systems shares plunged yesterday after the company was
downgraded to "neutral" from "outperform" by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
analyst Robert Chewning. The share price fell $7.60 to $130.90 in trading
on the TSE. Volume was 171,000 shares. Mr Chewning says he changed his
rating on the stock before the Mobil-Ford alliance was announced and he
downgraded it because the stock has risen so high.
