To Dan and all: Let me explain how taxes work in NY. First of all, if you have a bill to pay and just as an example, make a mistake in the amount by $10, it will be reflected as not paid. You will immediately incur penalties and interest will accrue from that date forward. If a lien is filed for nonpayment, it can take upwards to 2 years for that lien to be satisfied, even if you have paid it. Second
of all, it shouldn't matter if it's "lunch money" or not. If you feel you don't owe it, why should you pay? If you explain it, appeal it, whatever, in NY it can take as long as two years before the issue can be cleared up. You can't argue with NY, you can't even get them on the phone.
