Hi Dwight,

I brought up the question a few days ago while I was thinking about something in the 10K that mentioned assets being accounted for at cost. It has always been a given that the 1 bil is there but I've always wondered why they won't spend any of it to help grow their business. 6 months ago Schmidt was talking about spending whatever it takes to market products and grow the business. Now he says they don't plan to spend any of it. It struck me as a bit curious and I started wondering if they won't spend it because they can't. I called IR to find out and they told me that it was counted at market value at the end of each quarter. I still can't figure out why they keep changing their minds. Things like saying they will increase the marketing budget then cutting it. Saying they will increase R&D then cut it. Saying they were looking to buy into some new technology in the form of some small start ups then no plans to spend anything. I've never really stated it in so many words, but a large part of my negative attitude toward Novell and company, comes from a personal belief that a man is only as good as his word and personal experience that liars will always rip you off if they get a chance. I'd be a lot more trusting of Novell if their feet went the same way as their mouths.

Regards,

Don
