Today's Top Stories Everen Securities upgraded Ascend Communications (ASND) to a near term outperform from market perform. Analyst Christin Armacost said Ascend's ability to achieve fourth quarter results were in line with her expectations. This, coupled with her increasing confidence in Ascend's ability to show sequential earnings improvements, leads her to believe momentum can continue. [ 4:30 p.m. EST, 3/6/98 ] Bear Stearns downgraded Sun Microsystems (SUNW) to attractive from buy. Analyst Andy Neff said the downgrade was based on concern that increasing weakness in the Asia/Pacific region and Japan, which represented around 22% of its revenues, puts his earnings expectations at risk.
