End of day data and entry level software:
Either TC2000 or Quotes Plus is OK
(I started with TC2000 and switched to QuotesPlus )

Better software:
I use MetaStock, many also recommend Windows on Wallstreet.

Online book:
equis.com

I've heard good things about Murphy's book "The Visual Investor"
as a starter. My favorite is "Trading for a Living" by Dr. Alexander Elder.
