To: Patterson & Levy What the two of you fail to understand re, CPQ is that its "channel stuffing", has created the obligation to cycle-thru (or sell)their old models before renewing the channeling cycle with "new models". As an IT practitioner, (implementing Financials, Sales, Order Fulfillment and MFG systems for Fortune 500/1000 companies), I can tell you that an eight(8)week PC Mfg. turn-around cycle business/Mfg model is "lathargic", at best. This is particularly true when the above model (owned by CPQ)is strategically compared to Dell's seven (7) day BTO or ATO (assemble to order) order fulfillment Mfg. model. Re, your point (Reply #32753) on CPQ's price reduction of existing "channeled" PC inventory impacting Dell's expected earnings is short sighted. Dell will not be selling six (6) to nine (9) month old Pcs as is the case with CPQ's obligated inventory. DELL will continue to sell (read my words) BTO or ATO products, NOT (SIX TO NINE MONTH OLD CHANNELED PRODUCTS. DELL is introducing the latest and greatest technology into its Mfg BTO/ATO model in just SEVEN (7)DAYS. Mr.Deming would be proud. Regards, WTC REMEMBER THIS...
