Quad (Toy Soldier) - Names do Matter....

I have used the Internet for many years. I used to use newsgroups before SI. It would be unthinkable to use a "Fake" name on a news group. If discovered you would be flamed off the group...

Now I give you credit - Under your profile I see your real name - You have a nickname that I can see has significant meaning. I think that's great. I can easily find out who it is who is offering an opinion.

False Names will ruin the Internet. This is supposed to be a "valid" source of information. Names are important. Credibility is at stake. Why should I value anything ToySoldier has to say if he can't use his name? He could be "Jim McCormack" posting too himself for entertainment and the joke would be on the entire NOVL thread - who wants that. I suspect this happens often on SI.... I know you are not Toy Soldier BTW.

Hey - If I say anything that someone thinks is worth persecuting me over then I'll live with it. My name, my opinions, they make me human. Heck your name your opinions - Thats all you got...

This is a new media and all folks should approach it as if it were a face to face encounter. It is simply a matter of mutual respect....

If I came up to you on the street and gave a false name and began a dialog what would you think? I guess we have lost one more "Value" as time races on - Now we don't even respect our identity.

Sorry to "Wave" the Internet flag but this issue is more important then people understand. I think in the end the anonymous nature of the Internet is the greatest threat to the success of the medium.

Now what if everyone on TV News had a False name.... Would you watch it? Would you listen?

So there you have it.....

I'm done preaching.
