Phillip, you are flat out wrong when you say the manufacturing model can be duplicated in a weekend. If that's true why haven't CPQ and GTW been able to duplicate it (they've certainly spent a lot more time than a weekend trying to figure it out and both have major inventory problems)? JIT manufacturing is a complex process that requires a lot of precise planning. It's not sum jury-rigged thing put together by programmers -- it requires industrial engineers and systems analysts (not what programmers sometimes refer to themselves as, but the real thing -- people who understand physical systems design and logistics). Dell's edge over its competitors is that it knows how to implement JIT systems, and none of its competitors have been able to come close.

Regards,

Paul
