isn't buying puts a better hedge?

Puts cost money, covered calls generate money. My cost basis, net of call proceeds is now $35. If it goes over $40 in the next two weeks and gets called away, so be it. As I said, I am very bearish on the market, so if GTW recovers that fast from the recent decline, I'm sure I'll get another chance to buy it back. If the market crashes, taking GTW with it, I'll make more than enough off my bearish positions to laugh off the loss in GTW.

I thought GTW had a good shot a breaking into new ground. It came close. If I'm wrong on the market, GTW will do fine for me and will probably make another run at new highs. If I'm right, champagne is on me (actually I hate champagne; how 'bout a beer).
