Perhaps Monday the market will declare the obvious, a winner ...
I swear Mr. Pfeiffer has been driven crazy by DELL's success, and for the second time in one week chose a "DELL up 7 or 8" day to announce that his co. is whiffing on its strategy. I believe DELL's strategy has proven to be unique, correct and the clear winner in PC sales ... stick to the high-end. CPQ has blown it twice in a year ... 1st with the wonderful "$1,000 PCs" (which are not so wonderful, and cost more than $1,000) and 2nd with buying "we've missed 16 straight quarters" DEC. I owned a lot of CPQ, stuck with them in Q3 and Q4 when their numbers were okay, but I had hoped for more. I dumped it all for a loss when the DEC deal was announced. I have got to believe many will be switching from CPQ to DELL on Monday. CPQ is likely to be dead money for a long time. DELL is nailing it, and with their almost singular focus on the high end, nobody can compete effectively with DELL. I think Monday the "changing of the guard" officially occurs. Mr. Dell will be taking the next watch.
