Barry - Re: " I have TOTALLY given up on tape (and I've tried tape with 3 different drives/technologies over a 10 year period). "

I reached that point about about 3 weeks ago. I had an HP DAT tape backup unit - I paid dearly for it - $1100.

It held 8 Gig to 16 Gigabytes/tape (DDS2) and worked like a charm - until it stopped working.

HP said - sorry - out of warranty!

I said goodbye $1100....and GOODBYE HP!

I think my IDE disk drive backup solution will be the most cost effective and simplest.
