This concept of Sequent's is not new. It's running in the IBM mainframe world for decades(yes, it's more than 20). I can guess what this "Zoning" is all about. A large server such as this one from Sequent has a finite numbers of channels, for storage and clustering. Some numbers of these channels are connected to Brocade's switch ports. Prior to running a single image operating system on a single image server, the switch port should only expect 1 address from the operating system. With this multiple operating systems running on a single image server, the same switch port should now expect to see multiple addresses. My guess is that the rest of the FC switching protocol is the same old way(IEEE standard). The twist is now that one switch port has to handle multiple addresses coming from a single image server running multiple operating systems. Bear in mind, it is still one address can xmit/receive at any given time.
