All: Check out Eric Savitz's column in Barrons (avaliable at www.wsj.com-- subscription). It is clear that CPQ's problems are inventory-related. They need to clear the channel. In another column, Dave Barry (I think that's his name) says that Dell may be impacted because CPQ will slash prices. This is ignorant. NO ONE wants old models. New models are being unveiled soon, and Dell- with BTO -- can supply them. I was worried before reading these columns. I am now only worried about this Ireland rumor. Sales of Dell in Europe have been getting much stronger. I lived in Germany from 8/96--8/97, and dealt often with Dell in Langen (just south of Frankfurt). They told me that notebook sales were hot, and desktops better-than-average. The only problem is that they were idiots. Don't ever let anyone but Austin fix your computer-- they're hopeless outside the USA.
