>the earnings warning after the close on Friday makes me believe that the whole thing is an orchestrated plan to get this news out with minimal damage to the stock price

Ken,

Companies such as INTC, YELL and CPQ that announce bad news after the market closes are acting cowardly. They hit their very own investors when they are the most vulnerable - after the market is closed, and in a state of total helplessness to act or react. It's like whispering there's a fire in the theatre, instead of yelling it. I say it's immoral, cowardly, and reflects the personal self-interest company officers as opposed to the interest of shareholders and stakeholders. A real man would yell fire! at the soonest possible time. Not as a whispered, delayed announcement when potential victims are incapable of reacting.
