FWIW, a recap of my observations from CT Expo this past week. First of all, if you had not insight into the CTI players, the show would have nothing short of confusing. Every player touted their "full suite" of CTI offerings. With that being said, Genesys has clearly established their name in the field. The booth was crammed throughout the entire show and the strength of GCTI's alliance partnerships was quite evident. The announcements during the week with Pegasystems and Edify show how much more GCTI's hunting grounds are becoming.

In the many discussion I had with competitors, customers and consultants, Genesys is the player to beat in the high-end CTI area. Both Answersoft and Nabnasset seem to be a bit on the lower-end of things and clearly do not have the marketing momentum of GCTI. Geotel appears to be better positioned in the routing space but IMO does not tell a strong CTI story. Nonetheless, I believe Geotel is a well-managed company and will be a player.

It appears as if the network-based offering by carriers is at least a qtr away. This is the offering where GCTI earns transaction-based revenue. It still seems like Connectivity will be first (maybe Q3) followed by MCI's Innovagent (Q4 or Q199). MCI's offering is really aimed at the high end. Even with this wait, it appears that other carriers and CLEC's are evaluating or trialing the solution. This will likely not materialize in GCTI revenue until 99 but should sustain their growth into 99 and 00. The biggest question here IMO is whether the RBOC's can actually deploy this stuff.
