Re: The Splitrock Thing...
Gary -
I've got some research to do concerning Yurie's AQueMan queue management feature set, but in the meantime...
I found the following buried deep in Yurie's POS AM form filed 03/04/1998 with the SEC:
Kwok L. Li, the Chief Technology Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board of Yurie, is the majority shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Splitrock.
So, not only is he Chairman of the Board, but he's the majority stockholder of Splitrock. I must admit that I was unaware of that fact.
Given this, I agree with your theory that other protocols and and ATM hardware were never considered.
However, given that he is the majority stockholder in Splitrock, he obviously has an extremely vested interest in making Splitrock a success, rather than just leveraging his position on the Board to make it a major customer for Yurie.
To me (in other words, this is my opinion only), this removes some of the concern about Yurie only getting the contract because Mr. Li was the Chairman of the Board. He's got serious money in the Splitrock game, and I don't think he's in either business to get poorer.
Looking forward to a no doubt interesting week,
