mike, I don't think that there would be a patent battle. The small molecules are not the peptide hormone or anything like the peptide hormone (they don't even have a peptide bond), so it's hard to see how AMGN or IMNX could cover them with a patent.

When LGND knew it worked (which was a major surprise), they filed patents, but I think that AMGN and IMNX can only make a lot of noise regarding a molecule that they had no idea would work. I think that the discovery is causing a great deal of excitement and the me toos are lining up (but not behind AMGN or IMNX).
