Although NT will run on multiple platforms, the applications still need to be compiled for each individual platform (much like UNIX software is today). The difference between NT and UNIX though is that PC/Win95/NT software is shrinkwrapped, and cannot be compiled by the user (I don't see major software houses sending out their source code). Therefore all the platforms will have to have their own shrink wrapped version of the software on the shelf. With Intel holding a near monopoly on the installed base, all they have to do is maintain their current competitiveness, and there will be no reason for users to buy a PC with a processor for which less software is readiliy available, and stores will not stock software when few users are likely to buy it.

Therefore, I see NT on other processors filling in niche applications such as servers, and not as general purpose PC on the client side.
