WebWeek Interview w/ SWEBFs Dr. Lauren Wood on XML (11/97).

iw.com

Dr. Wood will be representing SoftQuad at the Mar 23-27 1998 XML Conference.

There is also a very important article in the March 2, 1998 edition of Internet World (formerly WebWeek) by the same author as the above Wood interview, Nate Zelnick. It is entitled "How a Couple of Detours For the Web Led To A Very Hot New Standard--The story behind XML"...wherein Mr. Zelnick suggests "...SGML had been ghettoized for about a decade because it was really complicated. The only people using it were in government, academia, and a few super-high-end publishing envionments, because the complexity was so daunting (and expensive) that everyone preferred to hack out a short-term solution...where SGML spent more than a decade festering in a backwater, XML not only has emerged as a document translation standard, but is fast becoming the basis of a host of new services...what's more, these innovations are happening faster than anyone thought possible..."
