RE: DVD, the wave of the future? **OFF TOPIC**

Andy,

What do you think of DVD? Do you have a player?

I had never really paid that much attention to it, but I took a look at a DVD-player today at Fry's and was less than impressed. It was a $650 unit, and it just looked like a glorified digital VCR. Although I've heard about a lot of special features that are possible with DVD(multiple camera angles, languages, formats, etc.), I couldn't find anything special on the remote or the front of the machine. The image was very nice and crisp when paused (and playing, of course), but FF/REW was almost like a fast slide show--still pictures changing about every half second. The disk looked just like a CD-R disk (gold on one side, fingerprints all over it <G>).

I didn't see anything that would make me want to buy one, even if (or when) they become considerably cheaper.

Just one consumer's opinion,
