NEWS ARTICLE (Sat-Mar-7-98): rumour The Globe & Mail Open Text (OTEXF - Nasdaq) $20.25 (U.S.), up $2.37 Geac Computer (GAC - TSE) $60 (Canadian), up $1.60 Rumours of imminent acquisitions helped propel both software stocks to 52-week highs yesterday, with Geac hitting a record high. Geac is purported to be kicking the tires on a major acquisition that will rival its $191.25-million (U.S.) purchase of a Dun & Bradstreet unit in late 1996. Open Text is also supposed to be dotting i's on a takeover. Neither company has made any public declaration of a pending deal - but both have clearly stated they are interested in acquisitions.
