Daniel as someone who has been using a cable modem for since August, I'll tell you what my experience has been. The install took about an hour with a two man team doing it. One was a cable guy, the other a PC tech. They run the line, if necessary and it happened that it wasnt in my case, they could split from an existing one, and the cable guy left after about 15 minutes. The PC tech had to install an ethernet card in my PC which took about 20 minutes, with configuration. Then he set up the modem, adn with testing that it took about another 15 minutes. Then he configured the cable modem on the PC and Pinged away and tested, about another 25 minutes. He then downloaded the software(25 megs in about minute and a half, love that 500k/sec) and installed and configured that another 10 minutes.

All told the PC guy took about an hour and a half to do everything, the cabling I don't know about, since it didn't apply. In the time I have had it, I experienced loss of connectivity twice for an evening, cable TV was also down, and once for a significant length of time, six weeks, for a problem they experienced with a router between my house and the cable station. All in all it has been great, naturally with an exception of the down time, which my cable company did not exactly move quickly to fix. I have heard that as more users join on my node I'll slow down, but with the increases to date, and three neighbors have since joined, I have yet to experience that slow down. Folks, highBandwidth is the future, it turns the Internet into a toll, not a way to spend an hour to find three pages. SI messages load in a blink of an eye, and I can read through a 100 in 2 minutes.
