The trouble with Viapiano's argument concerning tax loss selling is that no one knows in advance where the stock will be in a given time period. You are balancing the probability that the stock is going down vs. the certainty of paying taxes if you sell. Even if you think the stock is over valued say by an amount twice what you would pay in taxes you would need to believe that the probability of the stock going there to be above 50% vs. not moving at all to justify selling.
