No-Load Stock Insider (219) 852-3230]

Editor's note: Any selloff Monday in CPQ may present a buying opportunity
- we like to purchase items when they are on sale.

Compaq Computer (CPQ) 27 5/8 up 1/2. Some marquee-named companies
implemented No-Load Stock Plans, programs that allow investors to buy the
first share and every share directly, without a broker, in recent months.
Heading the list is CPQ.

CPQ's new plan permits direct purchases with a minimum initial investment
of $250. There is a one-time enrollment fee of $10. Subsequent investments
may be made from $50 - 10,000 per month. Purchase fees are $5 ($2.50 if
made with electronic debit) plus $0.04 per share. Shares may be sold via
the telephone. Selling fees are $10 plus $0.07 per share.

CPQ has been volatile in line with the action of many technology issues.
However, CPQ should remain a leader in the computer market. For investors
who want technology representation in a direct-purchase portfolio, these
shares offer a logical choice.
