Damn it Peter, I spent probably 45 minutes typing you out a long comprehensive list of companies in the industry and ones I follow and my browser crashed! I'm not in the mood to type another one right now so I will just give you a brief list of stocks that I follow in the industry and then some that I like.

It might be easier if you asked your ?'s in sections so I can give you short answers. I don't know if your interested in only large, safe companies, small caps, systems providers, components suppliers, start-ups, long shots <g>, domestic, foreign, public, private, pure-plays, etc. (I follow them all).

Some electronics/telecom giants that may do some WDM related stuff but are far from pure plays: (only a partial list off the top of my head)

LU, NT, ALA, Pirelli, GLW, ERICY, TLAB, HIT, HWP, IBM, ADCT, SFA, AMP, FUJTSY, NIPNY, NTT, SMAWY, MSBHY, AKZOY, Hyunadai, Samsung, etc, etc.

My favorite purer plays:
CIEN, UNPH, JDS.TO

Some laser companies (not pure plays)
SDLI, ORTL, LPWR, COHR

Filter companies
OCLI, POCI

General optics
AMP, NEWP, LPTHA, APAT

Fiber optic stuff and odds and ends
MRVC, HLIT, SPTR, OCCF, OPTC, TBTI, GAEO, TTELF, TEK

The one "WDM" excuse for a company that I am constantly shorting:
FIBR

There is one other foreign company that I follow and like but I don't talk about on SI because I don't want the word to get out if they start to take off. I want them all to myself. They are very small and infrequently traded so I like to keep them to myself while I follow their progress It is too eary to tell if they will be successful or not, but their sales are growing steadily and they are profitable. If your that interested in WDM you can probably run across them if you do enough research.

I'm sure I forgot some so feel free to add to the list people. I also follow many interesting private companies.
