How could this happen
or
I was shocked

This example points out that the give and take of SI.

It is inconceivable that anyone should have been able to pull a JillKill on Zeev Hed. It contains clear warnings to every poster that we exist here by sufferance. The JillKill can strike with devastating accuracy and completely silence a valuable asset at a critical moment, stranding the small investor.

A system of rules exists which is clearly violated every day. Discrediting posters is required to make some engines run here in cyberspace. A new thread which appeared and went to number one attested to Zeev's wide popularity here on SI and I know Jill got flooded with protests.

We need to be able to root out the obvious evils of rule breaking (like using the word smarty-pants) and allow all posters the ability to entertain and educate. Concerted effort to silence someone could be deliberate manipulation.

In a side bar here a full text search of smarty-pants returns an alarming number of incidences, I would advise all of you contemplating using this word to consider it an ill advised stratagem

Knowledgeable posters who mount excellent rational arguments are a valuable resource, that is obvious, but I personally wouldn't enjoy an SI that didn't include the Y2K glitch theories.
