Upgrades and downgrades are a bunch of self-serving nonsense. If DLJ upgraded Compaq to a strong buy, it probably means DLJ needs to offload a lot of Compaq. Investment houses are not in the business of making recommendations to help the average investor. This isn't charity. They made the upgrade for some sleazy underlying purpose, I'm sure.
