I found this over on the LU thread, and it begs an obvious question:

Lucent's Revolutionary Network Bandwidth Management System Saves Communications Carriers Up to 60 Percent in Equipment Costs
Tyco Submarine Systems Ltd. Will be First to Deploy

MURRAY HILL, N.J., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - news) today announced a revolutionary network bandwidth management system that dramatically simplifies the way communications service providers manage voice, data and video traffic. Called the WaveStar(TM) BandWidth Manager, Lucent's system single-handedly routes all the traffic -- voice, ATM, Internet protocol, and video -- being handled by today's largest telephone central offices, and saves carriers up to 60 percent in equipment costs alone.

With built-in processing power equivalent to 1,000 Pentium(R) processors, the new WaveStar system shrinks space requirements in the network central office up to 85 percent.

So, does this mean WaveStar has the processing power equivalent to 300 PowerPC(R) processors? <gg>

Keep on truckin'.
