To all: BUYING OPPORTUNITY!!!!!!!!

I just got off the phone with Dell's investor relations department. Dell's pricing will be UNAFFECTED by Compaq's action. There is a new Pentium that will be released in the middle of the second qtr by Intel. This has put CPQ in the precarious position of having older/obsolete inventory with higher component costs. Remember CPQ has about 100 days in inventory versus 7 for Dell. Cpq is having the most trouble in it's consumer division or low end line which Dell doesn't have. Dell's growth in the consumer business was 98% over the same period last year with only a small reduction in average selling price versus CPQ which has experienced a more dramatic reduction in average selling prices.

As far as the anal-ysts go, BT Alex Brown is being extremely conservative and is taking a shoot-first ask questions later approach or at a minimum, waiting until the fog clears.

Happy investing

:o)
