Corel's Message to Customers: 'Superb Software. Great Value.'

Business Editors

OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1998--(TSE:COS.) (NASDAQ:COSFF)
Corel Corporation today announced a market strategy for several of
its business applications which Corel believes will position them to
compete vigorously in the North American marketplace. Starting March
14, 1998, upgrade versions of Corel(R) WordPerfect(R) Suite 8 and
Corel(R) WordPerfect(R) Suite 8 Professional will be available for a
suggested retail price of US $89 and US $179 respectively. Effective
April 1998, upgrade versions of Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 fully
integrated with Dragon Systems(R) NaturallySpeaking(TM) speech
recognition software will be available for a suggested retail price
of US $129. Dealers may sell for less. *Please see complete pricing
chart on page 2.

"We've observed the emergence of the sub $1,000 PC market and
have recognized a related trend towards declining software prices,"
said Don Sylvester, senior vice president of Sales at Corel
Corporation. "We are choosing to lead the way by offering customers
excellent products at compelling prices."

"This fits well with Corel's mission statement -- focus our
technology leadership to offer customers value, compatibility and
choice -- in both the corporate and retail markets ", said Sylvester.
"It's also consistent with our 1998 sales strategy that aims to focus
on core products in retail and key corporate markets."

While Corel is successfully expanding its corporate business, it
is also continuing its long-standing commitment to the retail market.
Offering the award-winning Corel WordPerfect line-up at very
competitive prices has been strongly received and endorsed by the
retail channel including resellers and distributors across North
America.

"We think customers will be very excited with this new strategy
because our customers recognize top-of-the line technology at an
affordable price," said Larry Mondry, executive vice president of
Merchandising at CompUSA, America's number one computer superstore.

This press release contains statements that are forward looking
as that term is defined by the US Private Securities Litigation
Reform Act of 1995. These statements are based on current
expectations that are subject to risks and uncertainties. Actual
results will differ due to factors such as changes in mass market,
