The data from IDC and Dataquest are factory shipments. For DELL/GTW the numbers equal actual sales, for the others its shipments into the distribution channel plus whatever direct sales they have. If you're interested in detailed data, check out the IDC site and do some digging, for example: idc.com Some of IDC's stuff is free, most you have to pay for. If I want some up to the minute info, I buy one of their reports or bulletins, though I haven't sprung for a subscription to anything yet. David T.
