Robbie - Re: " You sound upset at EP & Co. for purchasing AMD
and Cyrix chips. S"

From a business standpoint, Compaq has been badly screwed every time they buy from AMD. In 1994, Pfeiifer dumped Intel because he did not want to put Intel Inside on his computers.

So he went to AMD and bought their 486 and K5 chips.

Just at the time everybody wanted Pentiums.

But AMD could not make a decent K5. They sampled it to Compaq and Compaq convinced AMD that they should not even market the K5 - it was soooo slowww.

So, Compaq is doing it again with the K6. Of course, Compaq now owns a chunk of AMD due to the NexGEN acquisition.

My point is Pfeiffer mixes his personal ego into business decisions that have ultimately come back to be financial problems for Compaq.

These decisions don't help Intel either!
