Company description:
Eagle Hardware & Garden is a leading operator of retail home improvement centers. Since its founding in 1989, the company has opened 32 home centers throughout Washington, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. Sales and net income for the fiscal year ended Jan. 30, 1998, totaled $971.5 million and $29.9 million, respectively.

Eagle opened four stores in fiscal 1997 and currently plans to open seven stores in fiscal 1998, including a store in La Quinta, Calif., which opened on Feb. 26, 1998. La Quinta is the first of several California stores planned for opening over the next two years. Of the six remaining stores currently scheduled to open in fiscal 1998, two are located in Southern California. Of the eight to ten stores currently planned for opening in fiscal 1999, four are located in Southern California.

Eagle has succeeded in its markets against its more established competitors by offering customer-friendly store environments, a large product selection, exceptional service, convenient locations and competitive prices. The company's home centers average 128,000 square feet and depart from warehouse-style chains with clean, well-lighted aisles, attractive displays and clearly marked signage. Eagle locations are stocked with more than 65,000 products per store under its "More of Everything(R)" merchandising philosophy -- over 30% more items than most of its competitors. The company's product categories provide a selection that is broad enough to allow a customer to purchase virtually every item needed to build a house.
