all: this just in....Dell CFO on conference call as shrs slump NEW YORK, March 9 (Reuters) - The chief financial officer of Dell Computer Corp is participating in a conference call that will likely include a view from Dell on the pricing battle currently gripping the PC market. The call, hosted by investment firm Bear Stearns and closed to the press, began at 1400 EST/1900 GMT. Dell spokesman T.R. Reid said he had no direct knowledge of what CFO Tom Meredith would be saying but said the executive would likely be ''answering questions about the marketplace.'' Compaq Computer Corp (CPQ - news) chief financial officer Earl Mason is slated to take part in a similar call on Thursday, March 12. Shares in both Compaq and Dell were down sharply in the wake of Compaq's warning late Friday that it would roughly break even in the first quarter. Dell shares were off 4-5/8 to 64-5/8 in mid-afternoon, while Compaq shares were 2-5/8 lower at 25.
