Yeah, or perhaps more a port replicator. In addition to allowing you to pull your machine away from a host of connects, mine adds: Fast SCSI for stuff like add'l hard drives, CD-Rom Read/Write, Jazz dirves etc. (but no bay for any such, designed for stuff w/its own power supply); a 100/10 LAN / cable modem port; a fast battery charger, and pretty good size built in speakers. (Also of course replicates all the myriad of ports the laptop itself has, including TV video out, Universal Serial Bus, mike in, headphone/audio out, etc.
Its my home/travel machine. And it does a bitching job of displaying sailing charts in glorious 1024x768 with its 20x CD-Rom drive.
