Did everyone hear Bob go medieval on the woman who called in Sunday saying she was thinking about taking her 401k money and plop it all into MSFT? Man, I was embarrassed FOR HER. She kept telling Bob, "Well, I'm not really well-versed on investments..." and Brinker kept retorting "no no, you've actually done many listeners a big favor," and went on to insinuate that by her being a big idiot, it was somehow a lesson to the other listeners.
Hey, I'm all for a good laugh at someone else's expense, but I kind of felt Bob went out of bounds with this woman. She told him upfront that she was anything but a sophisticated investor. There was no need to dress her down on the air. All he had to say was "look, a move like that is probably not in your best interests." Let's face it, if Bob wanted to make some callers look stupid, he could start by railing the idiots who call in looking for a pat on the back with the "Rate my fund, Bob" calls. This poor woman wasn't looking for a "You're in a GREAT fund, Joe, keep up the great work," she was just looking for some helpful advice. |
