fred, i didn't know mike when mu was $95 and he said it would go to $6. of course, i bet you argued and feel "right" now that mu is 2/3 below $95 and not $6 ;-)

anyway, are you saying mu is fairly valued? you probably believed the phony eps estimates for 1998 that were in the $3.00 range. now that is funny.

anyway, results are good relative to a companies valuation, not because the street "expects" anything. the manipulation of lowering estimates and then beating them so the stock will go higher than before the estimates were lowered is made easy by those of your mentality.

hp has a p166, 16 mb sdram, and a 33.3 modem for $499. what does it cost gtw to produce and compete on that level. answer - they can't.

you make a valid point about buying and holding. if one has thought through their strategy very well and has cash available to buy at much lower values then it can be plausible to buy a company after the cycle has peaked - though their stock price is overpriced.

however, sometimes it take 25 years to make up for doing that.
