Hi Penni, Things seem a bit slow on SI tonight perhaps market induced trauma ? Well misery loves company, and I have been holding a miserable portfolio for so long, I'd forgotten what a positive movement even felt like. Besides that the pain in my back improves only slightly every day. Its been almost two full weeks but I'm off the pills now, and can get in and out of a car without shouting or cursing, so that's an improvement. Now everyone can share their misery amidst my over ample supply.

But here is why I chose to post this note. I was mulling over some dates on a calendar and noticed that it was from the "National Cathedral". Now I'm not a religious person by any means but I have respect for genuine art and nobility of spirit as is often reflected in religious artifacts and monuments. I've been there and was struck with awe at its grandeur and monumental architectural nobility. But I have a fundamental problem. The separation of Church and State.

The National Cathedral imposes a certain Christian bias. There is no National Mosque for instance or National Buddhist Temple or National Synagogue. Should there be ? And what relevance does a cathedral have in America ? Is this the legacy that we should chose to pass down through the generations, lasting a 1000 years hence ? Will they think our century as being the period of Christian Religious enlightenment ? And how do the followers of non-Christian beliefs deal with this bias exactly ? Personally I think a monument containing a full size replica of an Apollo rocket, the Spruce Goose, a rack of M16s and a fully functional drive through McDonalds facility would be a more accurate tribute to the great accomplishments of this century. Oh yes, maybe a smallish thermo-nuclear warhead ought to be thrown in too. Now there would be a legacy everyone could take pride in erecting. We just need a structure that'll last a thousand years, any suitable place for rent down yourways in Texas ?
