Please: GO LISTEN TO THE CONFERENCE CALL FOR YOURSELF!!

Sorry for shouting folks, but you really need to hear it to appreciated the numbers.

If you aren't familiar w/KE's manner, you should know that he is generally regarded as a master of reserved understatement. I thought he had difficult time controlling his excitement of what they had pulled off.

Some major points-

The Panang plant blew everyone away with its ramp up speed and smoothness

The Zip tie ratio was stronger than anticipated, though the Jaz tie was lower than their internal expectations

R&D expense is lagging a bit because of the time it takes to hire the right talent. Can you imagine SYQ trying to hire the same people?

New Guy to head R&D w/28 yrs experience from HP. Remember, HP got out of the storage business this year. I seem to remember some posts on the Fool board back then w/comments from HP folks about how IO had impacted the storage business far greater than people realized.

Rebates- coming in at ~50%. Even so the message to the competition (when and if it shows up) is that $99 is going to be the price of the Zip in the future

Margins maintained (well almost, down 0.6%) But remember - costs included getting Penang up and running. They did. It is. And that leads to...

Contract manufactuers being phased out as IO can now handle the production itself

"The Dream Team" as KE called it several times - not only will be building special IC chips for IO, but will also be kicking in R&D resources on their end. WOW!!!

Move to NYSE

They were pleased with the way they met the challenges of 3Q and will have a very strong presence in all retail outlets in the US for 4Q.

"We're looking forward to a fun and exciting Comdex..."

THE *C* WORD!!!!
paraphrased: "Let me say a little bit about the word challenging because there was so much made of that word last quarter. I just want to say they as far as the 4thQ goes, we hope it becomes CHALLENGING to meet all the demand." KE

Competition- "We've got a very close eye on what is going on and we see no signs that anyone (LS120, syq, swan) is shipping in any type of volume. "WE WILL LOOK AT THEM AS A LARGE THREAT AND DEAL WITH THEM ACCORDINGLY." (pretty much exact quote)

But hey - go listen for yourself
