I think wherever you were using that mainframe, they were way
behind the mainstream for upgrading. I also doubt MSFT is going
to invest heavily in developing NT for very old iron. Most likely
for newer and new systems. You think their is pressure not to
quickly convert to NT from Unix from micro and mini servers, just
wait until you see the resistance in the mainframe market.

And cutting teeth on Windows will be no qualification for doing
work on a mainframe, NT or no.
