Investors/traders react to price more than to news. MMs use news to move the price. Simple as that. MMs/Specialists cannot/do not always use news unless they know of the news in advance. Why? Inventory (stock) levels as well as objectives of their own and for the insiders that they serve. In a market rally, its similar to a sale in Nordstrom. Nordstrom DUMP prices to attract huge holiday customers. The exchanges RAISE prices to attract huge investor interest. The opposite applies to declines, but I dont have a good real life equivalent example to illustrate that. Do my little story explain the 3X normal volume?
