Intermedia Communications Deploys Larscom's Orion
4000 Broadband Access Multiplexer to Make High-Speed
Data Connections

Network Service Provider Responds to Customers' Demands for
Greater-than-T1 Frame Relay Access

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1998-- Larscom Incorporated
(NASDAQ:LARS - news) today announced that Intermedia Communications, Inc., one of the
nation's fastest growing providers of integrated telecommunications services, is deploying Larscom's
Orion 4000 broadband access multiplexers and Mega-T multiple T1 inverse multiplexers to provide
high-speed data services.

Intermedia began placing Orion 4000s in its points of presence (POPs) and Mega-Ts at customer
sites first beginning in 1997, thus offering its frame relay customers greater-than-T1 access which is
much more cost effective than a T3 network circuit.

The Orion 4000 was selected based on three factors: the ability to provide cost-effective, fractional
T3 bandwidth by linking multiple inexpensive T1 circuits; redundancy features to significantly reduce
the risk of network down-time; and the ability to scale up to T3 and ATM network architectures as
necessary.

Filling the Void Between T1 and T3 Frame Relay Access

Michael Johnson, Intermedia's Director of Enhanced Engineering commented, ''For many of our
customers, T1s just aren't fast enough and T3s are too expensive. As a customer-focused
telecommunications company, we are aware of the rapidly changing requirements for broadband
communications, which is why we are so pleased with the salability and reliability of Larscom's
broadband product solutions.

''The Orion 4000 provides high-speed fault-tolerant interconnections while enabling us to grow into
the more expensive T3 or ATM equipment as needed. Plus, the Orion 4000's flexible architecture
lets us keep our options open with regard to changing and enhancing our network in the future.''

Intermedia Communications is also deploying Larscom's T3 Mux module in their OPs and
Access-T45 T3 network service units at the customer site for full T3 bandwidth.

High-Speed Fault-Tolerant Interconnections

''Our customers, especially the network service providers, demand network reliability. With a
simple bridge/repeater combination, when the network loses a T1 connection -- you lose the link,''
said Paul Strudwick, VP Strategic Planning and Business Development at Larscom.

''Larscom's Orion 4000 delivers cost-effective multimegabit services for bandwidth-intensive
applications. More importantly, should one T1 line fail, the Orion 4000 will continue to pass data
and return the link to service automatically once it is free of errors, thereby ensuring Intermedia's
mission critical communications.''
