Dear Janice,
Actually, Clinton spent the summer in Moscow during the Vietnam war, organizing anti war demonstrations. This comes very close to traitorous behavior.
You may remember that it was a Democrat, Kennedy who started the Vietnam War. The gulf of tonkin resolution may have begun the war formally, but it was Kennedy who recognized the need to make a stand against communism in South East Asia. Remember all those "advisors" he sent?
We now know that in fact, China and the USSR were at each other's throats and our speculation about their collusion against the US was unfounded. Nixon discovered this and took advantage of it with Kissinger's secret trip to China. With this in mind, the Vietnam war wan't necessary to defend against communism, thought that was its stated purpose. Nevermind that if the US hadn't defended South Vietnam, it would have been swallowed up very quickly indeed by a communist dictatorship, as it eventually was.
Clinton may not be a communist (may) but he certainly leans in that direction. His tirades against those "goddamned Wall Street speculators" (read that as us) is well known. I don't think he would approve of our activities. I wonder what he thought about Hillary's cattle futures profits.
Most Democrats and Republicans agree readily on a whole range of issues, namely, the need for a strong defense, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps, et al.
However, when the Republicans tried to reform welfare and Medicare by submitting many of the reforms suggested by Hillary herself, they were pilloried in the press as SOB's that want to destroy medicare. One thing is certain: Clinton is a very good politician.
The problem I have with our government is that Medicare and Social Security are going to go broke, taxes are too high, regulations are too stringent, and our present social welfare policies encourage immoral behavior. Clinton hasn't done anything to correct these pressing problems.
I heard all that crap about "cutting red tape" from Al Gore. What a crock. Nothing has changed.
Cordially,
