Carter, this thread and the Motley LOR thread have two folks who follow the satellite industry as professionals (valueman and readware respectively). Both were at a satellite industry shindig held this past week and the source of I* switching to CDMA for second generation birds came directly from that conference and specifically I* representatives. About as official as you could get! Note however that there will be formidable technical hurdles to be overcome and readware has amplified on the official announcement by saying that MOT has stated that the 2nd gen. birds will "work" with CDMA as well as TDMA. Given the considerable expense involved, the announcement is extremely significant because it means that CDMA which more efficiently utilizes the critically limited on board power capacity of the birds has a huge advantage over TDMA for satellite communications (which must run at full power all the time versus demand adjustable CDMA). Warning: I talk a good game but if you really want to know the fine points, do yourself a huge favor and ask somebody else. I ain't no techie. Only real point of my post was to answer the legitimacy of the announcement question. Mike Doyle
