Paul, in your response to Jim Patterson, you might also have mentioned that at least a part of his premise was false:

Dell the company is only a part assembler.

Those who are regulars know that I periodically update the number of patents that have been awarded to DELL. Admittedly, the number is not as great as some of the companies with huge R&D sections, but DELL has already been granted 13 patents, THIS YEAR. To my simplistic view, that implies that DELL is, perhaps, a bit more than a "parts assembler".
