Well what I do is typically buy at the ask but occasionally when accumulating I try to get at the midpoint. I always place limit orders and no restrictions good for theday unless I am accumulating the I put a GTC(good till canceled in). Now selling I put in limit orders at targets for BTS or on momentum whatever I am trading the stock for.

Now if I want out and it is falling I make a market period but rarely do I do that and I maybe twice in trading make a market order buy. Also I generally buy in lots of ask size too. Multiple orders on the same stock you only get charge once a day for comission.

Happy Trading
