Again the issue is which DD maker is best positioned to take advantage of the lower price trends in desktop computers?
The fact that Quantum "offers new 1.6 Gb DRAM based disk...to
high end server market" (Post # 7484) is irrelevant - how are they positioned for $110 disks or $60 disks?
As many on this thread have hinted, Compac, Intel et. al. 's
problems come, not so much from volume decrease but from shift
to lower price, less profitable offerings and this means more, not less drive sales. Concentrating on high end products - DLT, $800 SCSI
won't help in this changing market.
Anyone out there know QNTM's relative position vis-a-vis other DD
makers on cheap drives?
