To find the real lowdown on switching attend a NANOG or IETF meeting and talk to the engineers who make the descions. There is no consensus routing vs switching. Sprint and BBN vs. UUNET and PSI for example. Heck, 5 years ago magnetic hard drives were dead and optical disks were the future. Just wait untill you see Juniper and other Big Fat Routers hit the market. The new company "Layer 3" will depend on the features of routing for voice services (thus it's name). Stb
